This position involves the testing and verification of major systems to ensure their configuration and operation complies with organizational security policies. This is a mid to upper level position that maintains and operates systems supporting the configuration compliance verification and vulnerability assessment activities. Network Administrator for the SBA in Washington, DC

The opening is at our client site for the SBA in Washington, DC as a network administrator. The SBA network consists of 4500 workstations and 150 servers in 90 locations located around the United States. The candidate will provide Tier III, on-site support services to address and complete the tasks outlined below. Tier III staff typically do not directly interface with users; rather, they generally interface with the Field Information Technology Specialists (FITS) and other technical professionals to configure, implement, and resolve hardware and software used to support LAN/WAN services. Tier III services include the monitoring of network operations, resolution of complex technical issues, serve as the primary interface with external technology partners, hardware, and software vendors (Ex. Microsoft, Cisco, Sun, etc.). Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Problem-cause analysis beyond that which can be provided by Tier I or II, generally technical in nature.
  • Interfacing with vendor technical representatives or help desk services to resolve network problems
  • Monitor and maintain all areas of SBA’s network operations including but not limited to; Exchange Enterprise, Windows 2000/2003 Active Directory, Blackberry Enterprise Servers, Fax Servers, Routers, Switches, LAN/WAN environment, Web, etc.
  • Serve as point of contact for FITS for network problem resolution
  • Documenting LAN/WAN configurations, procedures and best practices.
  • Creating and maintaining patch management records/information
  • Research, evaluate and comply with routine security audits performed on SBA’s Exchange, Active Directory, Windows Servers, Windows Desktops, routers, switches and Unix environments.

Candidate must have a strong network background with Microsoft products, operating systems and technologies including Windows Server 2003, Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange Server 2003 and Windows 2003 Clustering Services.

The primary responsibilities involve the following:

  1. Exchange/file server clustering and failover/recovery
  2. Patch management using WSUS. These technologies automate the patching process and allow the central management of deployments.

Function as technical team lead assigned to install local area networks at Department of State facilities worldwide.
